Fourth annual Historical Haunted Tour raises $16,000!
Sold out four years in a row, Truckee’s Historical Haunted Tour has raised more than $31,000 total for Trails & Vistas and the Truckee Donner Historical Society. The 2012 tour, launched from Moody’s Bistro, Bar & Beats on Oct. 18 and 19, raised $16,000 through cash sponsors, admission and raffle ticket sales. An event that began as an experiment to support two nonprofit organizations and provide an economic boost to historic Truckee in October, has proven to be a successful fundraising initiative and favorite annual activity. In 2009, 70 tickets were available. The tour sold out three weeks in advance. In 2010, 140 tickets were offered. Once again the tour sold out weeks in advance. In 2011, every resource was stretched to the max, and more than 290 tickets were sold. This year more than 400 people from near and far attended the guided walking tour. “We captivate a crowd with engaging stories about Truckee,” shares event producer Christina Stoever-Young of Sunshine Tahoe who attributes the tour’s success to the incredible talent and dedication offered by all of the volunteers including tremendous support from Trails & Vistas and the Truckee Donner Historical Society. In addition, she notes the Tour’s sponsors - The Richardson House, Squeeze In, Mountain Home Center, Chamber of Commerce, KidZone Children’s Museum, Scraps Dog Bakery, Tahoe TV and Moody’s – volunteer performers, trail leaders and local media partners - The Weekly, Moosnhine Ink, Sierra Sun and 101.5 for getting the word out about Truckee's cherished annual October event. Nancy Tieken Lopez from Trails & Vistas explains the value of the tour, “Proceeds support our mission to create the region's only art-hike, an exquisite experience that takes places in nature every September and it also makes our field trips with art, music, poetry and environmental studies possible for local third grade students.” “The Haunted Historical Tour provides our organization with needed funds to continue the preservation of historical documents and pictures and provides a working environment for any and all who want to research Truckee's colorful history,” shares the Truckee Donner Historical Society. 2012 Highlights Each year new stories and haunts are featured. The 2012 tour included stops at the downtown Mountain Home Center, CoffeeBar, MOBO Law, Scraps Dog Bakery, Old Jail Museum and The Pour House. And, Moody’s poured more than 400 glasses of wine for all the attendees! Visitors from Connecticut, Florida, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada and, of course, California attended this year. One attendee from Coos Bay, Oregon shared, “I can't choose a favorite! It was all a hoot” and another person shared, “I enjoyed it all. It was fun, entertaining from start to finish.” Donated raffle items included lodging at The Richardson House, Riverside Inn, Truckee Hotel and Hampton Inn plus goodies from Squeeze In, KidZone Museum, The Pour House, Mark McLaughlin, Scraps Dog Bakery, Dorinda's Cafe and Johnstone Studios. 2013 Save the dates for Trails & Vistas 10th year anniversary on Sept. 7 and 8, 2013 as well as next year’s Historical Haunted Tour on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. No Historical Haunted Tour would be complete without time spent on Jibboom Street. That's right, we're talking about the red light district of many years ago. We'll be looking into nooks and crannies, daring to step into the alley and chances are high we'll find both tricks and treats. We'll be wowed at The Pour House, haunted in the Old Jail Museum and treated to something out of the ordinary at one of our very favorite eateries, CoffeeBar. What do we love most about the CoffeeBar? Let us count the ways this place delights. 1. Extraordinary coffee drinks and loose-leaf tea selection 2. Yummy bites when we want to indulge, nourish or both 3. And, most of all, an incredible staff. This is one of the very special places in town where customer service shines in every interaction we have with baristas, chefs and cashiers. Good people, friendly service and professionalism at a higher level are things to celebrate. We're so glad the CoffeeBar will be one of our 2012 haunts - thank you!
